Today is Wednesday, and I’m pleased to have Iris Blobel back to talk to us about her newest release, Love Will Find You, Book One in the Austrailian Sports Star series. On holiday with his parents after his father’s heart attack, Tyson Gaspaldi meets Katie Cassidy, emotionally broken after the sudden loss of her sister. She is taken by surprise by her emotions. But will his past and her own demons make it impossible for their romance to survive? CL: What inspired the idea for Love Will Find You?
IB: We went on holidays to a small coastal town in New South Wales a few years back. It was around the same time as the Grand Final Week of the AFL (Australian Football League) here in Victoria. It’s a big event here. So while walking along the shore, or sitting at the beach, my husband and my daughter often had a conversation about the finals and some of the players. Well, put one and one together, and I came up with the idea of “Love Will Find You”.
CL: Tell us a little bit about your writing process. Do you outline before you begin to write or are you a pantster?
IB: To be honest, I haven’t got a writing process. I write when I have time is basically it.
I usually come up with a story when I’m on holidays. The environment, my surroundings inspires me the most. Once I have the setting, I have characters in my head screaming to be part of the story J. But I’m also part of a group that’s called Tuesday Tales. It’s a group of authors who write to a prompt each week. It’s been challenging, but every time I finish a manuscript and read through it, I remember the occasional prompt and am surprised how much that word gives it that little something. CL: What was the most difficult part of writing Love Will Find You?
IB: Love Will Find You was rejected by many publishing houses. After a good vent, a friend helped me working through the manuscript. About ¾ through the story, she threw the manuscript back at me (in a very nice way! J) saying “here’s your problem”. There was a part she didn’t like at all. I’ve learnt a lot from her, took her advice on board, and my submission successful with Limitless Publishing.
CL: Tell us a little bit about your journey to becoming a published author.
IB: Oh my. I never saw myself as an author. Languages were never my strong subjects in school, I’m afraid quite the contrary. No wonder I ended up working in the finance department of a school.
However, I’m a daydreamer, and when I put my dreams and thoughts onto paper, the people around me loved it. It’s been a domino effect since then, coming up with story lines, characters screaming in my head to have their story told…
CL: What advice would you offer aspiring writers on the writing business?
IB: NEVER EVER GIVE UP and believe in yourself!
CL: Any special tips for writers who are juggling writing with raising a family, working a day job or just life in general?
IB: No, I’m afraid not. See, I’m not the kind of person who aims at a certain amount of words per day. I write when I have time and I feel like it, otherwise it turns into a chore. I do the 50ks in 30 days with RWAus every June, and it’s heaps of fun. Probably more for the social aspect than to pump out words, but I couldn’t do it for the whole year.
My books aren’t my income, so my family comes first. It’s something everyone has to figure out on their own.
Iris Blobel was born and raised in Germany and only immigrated to Australia in the late 1990s. Having had the travel bug most of her life, Iris spent quite some time living in Scotland, London, as well as Canada where she met her husband. Her love for putting her stories onto paper only emerged a few years back, but now her laptop is a constant companion. Iris resides west of Melbourne with her husband and her beautiful two daughters as well as their dog. Next to her job at a private school, she also presents a German Program at the local Community Radio.

I think it’s awesome that your vacations (holidays) often result in some creative project. You must truly be able to relax on vacation.
not so for me. I tend to tense up with the expense, the travel, and any hassles like traffic.
Well, I do try, Jeff, but the vacations are few and far between lately lol. And I’ve become a lot less patient with the traffic. Not much of a long drive
person these days but with all the craziness involved in flying, guess I’ll be looking at staycations in the future 😀
